At 2pm on 19 March 19, 2005, Ph.D. students Yutian (Kate) Chen and Bin Tang were joined in holy matrimony in the first large Chinese and American wedding ceremony in the Charles B. Wang Center Celebrating Asian and Asian American Cultures at Stony Brook University. One hundred and sixty guests were on hand to wish them a future of happiness. One of the intentional designs in the Wang Center by architect P.H. Tuan was a chapel for international students to get married in, though this wedding was so large the Zodiac Fountain was used. SBU President Kenny will allow students to marry in the Wang Center as a gift from the University so there will be many more marriages in the years ahead. Hopefully alumni and members of the community will use it too and their financial support will allow the University to provide this service for students, especially international students who do not have family here to help.

The Kenneth Wang School of Law was donated to Soochow University in Suzhou, China, on its 100th Anniversary (2000) by the Wang Family Foundation - brothers Anthony, Charles, and Francis. Their father, Kenneth, is a graduate. The School was designed by P.H. Tuan, the architect who also designed the Charles B. Wang Center Celebrating Asian and Asian American Cultures at Stony Brook University, donated by the founder of Computer Associates. Though the School is a much bolder design than the Center, there are some striking similarities - gray brick patterned walls, curved rooms, dramatic entrances with a row of high small square windows across the front, that make the buildings perfect symbols for 'sister' universities. Although radically different, each building would give visiting students a sense of familiarity - that same 'home away from home' concept that the Wang Center at Stony Brook gives to all Asian international students through its modernistic interpretation of traditional Asian architectural elements. Photos were taken in April-May 2004 and sent to Gary Wu, Soochow alumnus and CSE grad student at SBU, by Weichun Li, an instructor at Soochow. An article about the School is at www.aa2sbu.org/WangLawSoochowPHTuan.
